Dr. Ted Jones

Dr. Theodore Jones graduated with a master’s of social work from the University of Michigan, while working as a community organizer in Southwest Detroit. During that time, he volunteered on a state representative campaign, leading to roles as a legislative director in the Michigan House of Representatives and various positions in government relations and campaign management. This experience allowed him to establish his own firm in Detroit, specializing in community development, engagement, and political consulting. Seeking a new challenge, he joined the Detroit Revitalization Fellowship in 2017 and was placed with Detroit Public Schools Community District. In his six years as a central office administrator, he led Board Relations and policy development, supported the Partnerships and Innovation Division, and helped build the District’s fundraising capacity. He also completed his doctorate in educational leadership from Michigan State University during this period.

In 2024, Dr. Jones was nominated as one of two Michigan Democratic Party candidates for the Michigan State Board of Education. Running a statewide campaign focused on educational equity, he garnered 2,401,799 votes, achieving the top Democratic vote count in the race. Dr. Jones also led all candidates in votes earned in Oakland County, Wayne County, and Detroit.

Dr. Jones is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and resides on Detroit’s eastside. He enjoys reading, golfing, working out on his Peloton, exploring new restaurants, and attending sporting events.
