Building Inclusive Organizations

Put our experience to work for you.

Global Detroit works with corporations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and public institutions to develop work environments, outreach strategies and programs that intentionally and meaningfully include immigrants and global talent. Developing inclusive practices ensures the long-term health and longevity of your institution while contributing to the overall strength of our region.

We can support your efforts to:

  • Recruit and retain international students and foreign-born employees
  • Develop a more inclusive workplace culture
  • Better reach immigrant constituents and ensure your services meet their needs

Success Story The New Economy Initiative

The New Economy Initiative partnered with Global Detroit to increase the number of immigrant-owned businesses participating in its NEIdeas funding competition for small businesses in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. Global Detroit developed and executed strategies for NEI that included: translation of application materials, linguistically and culturally relevant outreach and follow-up (door-to-door, phone, social media, etc.), application support and translation for applicants, and post-application connection to small business resources.

The results? In the final year of the partnership, Global Detroit helped connect more than 1,000 business owners in immigrant neighborhoods with program information and NEI realized a 300% increase in applicants from the targeted neighborhoods. Twenty-one percent of the program’s finalists and 20% of the awardees came from the neighborhoods where Global Detroit’s strategies were deployed.
