About the Southeast Michigan Refugee Collaborative

The Southeast Michigan Refugee Collaborative (SEMIRC) is a network of private and public organizations across Genesee, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties working together to create more robust systems of support for refugees and immigrants.

Position Overview

Global Detroit is hiring a part-time Intern for the Southeast Michigan Refugee Collaborative. The internship will start the week of September 3rd and end the week of December 18th with flexibility to schedule internship hours around class and final exam schedules. Pending a midterm review and availability, there is a potential to extend the internship an additional semester or two (January through April or August).

Responsibilities

  • Meeting Documentation:
    • Capture comprehensive and insightful notes in meetings.
  • Event Support
    • Support the Director of Refugee Integration Policy and SEMIRC Special Projects Coordinator to plan and organize impactful events.
  • Content Curation:
    • Conduct thorough research and gather valuable content for communication materials and information sheets/guides, contributing to a robust and informative knowledge base.
  • Data Entry and Management:
    • Accurately document meeting attendance and other data in Notion.
    • Validate and update Resource Guide content once a quarter to ensure the information is accurate.
  • Collaborative Project Support:
    • Complete project-related tasks as assigned in support of the Special Projects Coordinator and SEMIRC workgroups.
    • Employ strong time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Skills and Experience

To fulfill this role successfully, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • A highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a passion for fostering collaboration and efficiency.
  • Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at building rapport and fostering a positive team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable utilizing or learning collaborative platforms like Google Drive.
  • Thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating initiative and the ability to manage multiple tasks with focus and precision.
  • A team player with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, embracing the MaGP principles of shared success.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Graduate students desired, 3rd+ year undergraduate students are welcome to apply.
  • Previous experience with Notion.
  • Fluent in a language other than English, such as Arabic, Dari, French, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili, or Ukrainian.

Salary and Benefits

This position is a part-time (10 hours/week) stipended position. The stipend will be $3,000 per semester. At 10 hours/week over 16 weeks, the $3,000 stipend works out to roughly $18.75/hour. The position has the option to be hybrid, with some in-person work required, but flexibility for most of the hours. Global Detroit’s offices are located in Detroit, but since the Collaborative covers Genesee, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties, in-person work could take place in any of those locations.
