Global Talent Accelerator prepares international students for successful careers in the U.S.
Global Detroit program helps SE Michigan companies address skilled talent gap
Global Detroit is launching a Global Talent Accelerator to help prepare international students and recent graduates for the U.S. job market and to provide Southeast Michigan companies with highly skilled talent. Students selected for the program will participate in a summer cohort that helps them develop critical workplace skills while networking with employers, receiving one-one coaching and taking insider tours of Detroit.
Global Talent Accelerator partner companies receive access to vetted international talent. Participants in the program are required to successfully complete a rigorous soft skills training program before interviewing with employers. Global Detroit will also pre-qualify candidates for positions and provide one-on-one coaching and mentoring for the Accelerator’s global talent hires.
“Employers are eager hire global talent but need support preparing international students for the the U.S. job market. Meanwhile, highly skilled students are telling us they are ready to work but need connections” said Steve Tobocman, Global Detroit’s executive director. “The Global Talent Accelerator addresses these two related challenges that, when resolved, have big implications for students, businesses and Michigan’s economy.”
Eligible students must be in their final year of undergraduate or graduate studies and have applied for Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT) work authorization. Students must be able to commit to 6-8 hours of sessions and events held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from June 3-July 31, with additional programming in August.
