Position Overview

The Employee Experience and Inclusion Manager ensures Global Detroit’s team members have the right skills, tools, and environment to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities, while managing, tracking, and running the processes required to create a connected employee experience. Their main duties include analyzing employee engagement and sentiment within the organization, and developing and implementing employee engagement programs and initiatives to improve the employee experience; fostering an environment that motivates team members to invest their energies toward positive organizational outcomes; coordinating and improving the processes (e.g., recruitment, hiring, orientation, development, advancement, retention, etc.), which successfully and positively support the professional life-cycle of Global Detroit team members; contributing to a culture that seeks to understand and elevate what motivates team members to show up as their whole selves and function as their best and highest selves.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Employee Experience and Inclusion Manager will successfully deploy and measure an employee experience and inclusion strategy, in support of Global Detroit’s broader organizational development and DEIB strategy. This is a part-time position.

Responsibilities
  • Hiring, Onboarding, Policies and Compensation

    • Co-design, coordinate and manage the recruiting and hiring process of new team members. Find and create opportunities to advance ideas and improvements that will support recruiting and hiring engaged, diverse, and qualified employees.
    • Co-design, and co-manage the onboarding process of new team members (e.g., full-time, part-time, and interns), including developing training materials for new hires
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging
    • Oversee DEIB efforts regarding team professional development, and in terms of serving as a permanent staff member of the Belonging Committee, serving as a liaison between the team members and the leadership team, and providing administrative support to the Committee
    • Identify and advance suggestions of how to leverage this role or its function to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the organization and throughout its scope of work
  • Employee Experience & Engagement/Internal and Volunteers
    • Analyze employee engagement and employee sentiment within the organization, and develop and implement employee engagement programs and initiatives to improve the employee experience
    • Foster an environment that motivates team members to invest their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral energies toward positive organizational outcomes
    • Recruit, generally manage, and provide general organizational onboarding of volunteers, and in collaboration with project/ program lead, track their hours by program and activity
    • Help continue a culture of fun, diversity, inclusion and belonging
  • Employee Concerns
    • Serve as a confidential space for employees’ minor needs and concerns and help them navigate daily professional obstacles
  • Operations
    • Maintain and secure up-to-date confidential employee records
    • Work with the Operations Director to revise and create employee policies which align with Global Detroit’s organizational culture and values
    • Support critical improvement initiatives across the organization, with a particular emphasis on operations and the employee experience
    • Manage human resources vendor relationships and contracts and also vendor-assigned outcomes, including creating, measuring and regularly reporting on agreed upon KPI’s
  • Staff Development, Advancement, and Recognition
    • Under the direction of the Operations Director, collaboratively develop and implement staff evaluation and professional advancement planning processes grounded in a reciprocal-feedback culture
      1. Includes developing, or overseeing the development of, performance management tools, manager training on performance management and retaining performance management outcomes
    • Under the direction of Global Detroit leadership, coordinate organization-wide training and development experiences that provide growth and learning opportunities
    • Create awareness about, and communicate opportunities to uplift, recognition for long-term employee success, as part of the larger employee experience and organizational strategy
    • Collaborate with the Leadership Team on fair and meaningful ways to recognize team members for their individual and collective contributions
  • Performance Coaching
    • Under the direction of the Operations Director, develop processes and tools in support of employee relation activities including process improvement plans, coaching, steps of discipline and separation
Required Skills and Experience

To fulfill this role successfully, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • 3 to 5 years of nonprofit human resource or employee relations experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial human resource’s position including roles in project management, program management, or people management
  • Demonstrated success in leading or deploying diversity, equity, inclusion, or belonging strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in activating problem-solving skills for the purpose of developing effective strategies, advancing initiatives, or improving processes.
  • Experience with helping others navigate minor conflicts in the workplace.
  • Experience with the design and deployment of employee engagement best practices
  • Knowledge of human resources generalist strategies
  • Ability to plan and implement short- and long-range goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of human resource information software (HRIS) like Bamboo HR, SAP, Namely, etc.
  • Enjoy building connections with other people and understanding what motivates them to show up as their whole selves and function as their best and highest selves.
  • Presentation and stakeholder communication skills
  • Detailed- and process-oriented, with the ability to create processes where none may exist to help facilitate the completion or improvement of the work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working successfully with diverse groups of people.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in human resources, business administration, Communications, or a related field is preferred, but not required
  • Human Resource Certifications such as the Chartered Professional Human Resources (CPHR) designation (or other industry-accepted certifications) are preferred, but not required.
  • Analysis skills supported by experience with designing, deploying, and evaluating surveys.
  • A passion for social justice work and the elevation of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is considered an advantage.
Salary and Benefits

This position is a part-time (20 hours/ week) hourly position but could also be filled by a contractor. The salary will range from $20 to $35 per hour, depending on experience. This position does not include benefits.

The Global Detroit team is currently working remotely, but this position is based in Detroit, with the option for hybrid hours (partial office time, partial remote).
